Working With the Living Wage

posted 21/05/2019 - 15:51

As a long time supporter of the National Living Wage (NLW) TemcoUK does everything possible to ensure that their staff enjoy the best remuneration for their abilities.

Paying staff the higher wages as defined by the NLW, as opposed to the Minimum Wage, suits TemcoUK’s long established business model perfectly. It results in enhanced loyalty and reliability, minimising disruption through employee churn and reduces recruitment and training costs. The main benefits come from the fact that higher quality staff work more intelligently and flexibly, resulting in significant productivity gains.

When taking on a new contract it is not always easy to transfer staff to the NLW though. There is a balance to be maintained between enhancing the ability of staff through training and recruitment and raising wages, but the leap is always worthwhile.

Additional benefits can occur when similar areas of employment, for example catering, are required to transfer to the NLW as a result and with the correct management, enhance their productivity and service levels too.

“The final benefit I am compelled to mention is as a consequence of Brexit.” Says Andrew Philpot, Managing Director of TemcoUK Facility Services, “Once we have left the EU, gradually but inexorably the European workforce in the UK will diminish, so the ability to recruit and retain the best possible staff to fulfil contracts will become critical. It is essential that TemcoUK is the employer of choice.”
