Cleaning is not the first thing one thinks about when considering an organisation’s bottom line, but poorly executed, it will have a serious negative impact. Get it right and you set a company up to excel.
In general terms, cleaning has a significant impact on the wellbeing of staff, affecting hygiene and health of course, but also morale, and hence productivity; dirt and disorder are distracting and depressing – they distract staff and make them unhappy. If their employer does not care why should they?
Then take the manufacturer. From food and pharma, to electronics and engineering, poor cleaning can adversely affect product quality and productivity, either through direct contamination or by affecting the performance of machinery. And do not forget the need for order in these environments; untidiness can cause serious accidents when machinery is in operation.
At the corporate level, like law firms and accountants, the focus is inevitably upon the client experience, so standards must be commensurately high. Overflowing bins, dirty floors and walls, unclean and unstocked washrooms, streaky screens and windows do not inspire confidence in the professionals that work in such an environment.
In all these businesses, efficient cleaning has an encouraging effect upon morale, making staff feel valued and positive about their surroundings. This is particularly important in sectors where staff performance and retention is critical, such as financial services.
