Sometimes it is too easy to question a member of staff’s work ethic without understanding their background. You might conclude that they are unresponsive or lacking motivation, but they might just be tired or having a very hard time emotionally. You really need to not jump to conclusions but try to find out why, and what, if anything, can you do to help.
It is common for staff in the cleaning industry to have two, sometimes three jobs and often there can be complicated family arrangements. It is important to be well informed of the situation so that you can react accordingly. You want to get the best possible performance when they are working for you, so it is vital that they feel valued and have a genuine sense of ownership. Only in this way will you get the best performance in the most sympathetic circumstances.
